Michael Murtaugh
Michael Murtaugh has had a life full of traumatic and dramatic experiences. In his early years, he was molested, given drugs, fed dog food and ultimately fell into addiction, homelessness and crime. Michael was jailed for the first time at age 18. He fought personal issues from the age of 11 to 45, including addiction. His life was dramatically changed in 2010, when with the support of his family, he checked into Calvary Addiction Recovery Center and began his journey down the recovery road.
Recently retired, Michael had a long professional career in the luxury hospitality industry, serving as Purchasing Director for Four Seasons Resorts in Scottsdale, AZ. His primary passion is assisting those who struggle with addiction through an innovative faith-based Recovery Ministry. In 2017, Michael started the Annual Race for Recovery, which has to date raised more than $90,675 with 100% of these proceeds helping addicts and their families. In 2019, Michael partnered with PAL for a fundraising event where he swam from Alcatraz to the shore of the San Francisco Bay with his legs in shackles. He then ran in handcuffs seven miles to the Golden Gate Bridge and back, to symbolically prove that the chains of addiction can be broken!
Michael invites you to join him by finding and conquering your own challenge as part of the 6th Annual Race for Recovery!
